BIG GAME... Mauser Take Down Rifle. The "404 Jeffery - 300 Dakota" |
|||||||
Rob has built a new design in take down rifles with a more positive and stronger setup than traditional types. The system has only one forend to fit all barrels and can be considered free floating, this means that extra barrel sets are less costly than the traditional types with each having its own forend. A small hand tool is used for removing barrels which locks into the forend attachment block. All of the following calibre's can be used on this one action with the same bolt guaranteed to feed flawlessly. The rifle will feed in any position, including upside down. The calibre's suited to this particular rifle are the:
The same type of rifle can be built using other cartridge groups such as the 308 and 30/06 cartridges (see at end of column for combinations). This 404 Jeffery and Dakota group of cartridges has a magazine capacity of 4 down. The features of this rifle include: Smithson quick detachable mount systems. Multiple scopes can be set up and used on the same bases and sighted for each barrel being used. A Rigby style cocking piece aperture sight is fitted and can be used in conjunction with barrels that only require a front sight to be fitted. Front sights are Retnagel with removable inserts. These can be changed for elevation adjustment and various types of beads such as fiber optics, gold bead and white bead. Rear sight is a wide 'V' big game type with 1 standing and 1 folding. Safety is a 2 position on/off only side swing set up. The metal finish is rust blued with Cerakote 'micro slick' in the bolt way, Magazine etc with other parts like the cross bolts being nitre blued. The stock is Turkish walnut with ebony forend tip and grip cap finished with a hand rubbed oil finish, that is easily touched up if it gets scratched or damaged. This rifle is sporting a black leather cover recoil pad as well as a stock oval name plate. Checkering is a medium L.P.I. for best feel and to just be practical. Checkering is wrapped around over the grip and under the forend. Various rifle cases would be available to suit different setups. Other calibre combinations using the 308 group
